Mark and his Schwienhaxe, Munich

Mark was head sous chef in an award winning Scottish restaurant, so he provides the expert opinions on all things gastro. Having studied Medieval History, he often drags his lovely girlfriend to corners of the globe laden with ancient fortifications and religious idols. Originally from Northern Ireland, and paying homage to medieval cuisine, his favourite ingredient is the potato. His favourite street food dish of all time (so far) is Schweinshaxe, slow cooked pig knuckle, from any outdoor beergarten in Munich. Presumably because you feel like a medieval king when eating it.

Suzy was a tour guide and is a qualified wordsmith, having completed a Masters Degree in Creative Writing. A one-time travel writing prize-winner, she provides the adjectives, nouns and occasionally verbs (steering clear of adverbs). Her origins in Scotland have nothing to do with her favourite ingredient – kaffir lime leaves. After careful deliberation she settled on Chicken Satay from Jalan Alor, Kuala Lumpur as her favourite street food dish thus far. It’s simple, it’s snack size, it’s…meat on a stick.

Together they trek the globe in questionable bicycle lycra on their Gastro Velo Odyssey, looking for little pockets of gastronomic delight and anything that will fit nicely in a bicycle basket.
